Introduction

Thank you for joining us as a user at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE). LANSCE is located at Technical Area 53 (TA-53) at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). LANSCE is a world-class linear accelerator facility. Our primary User experimental areas are the:

•  Lujan Neutron Scattering Center (Lujan Center), and

•  Weapons Neutron Research Facility (WNR)

 

Purpose

This course will inform you of the hazards at LANSCE. It also describes the controls in place to protect you, other workers, and the environment and explains how to respond to abnormal events or emergencies.

The course is divided into three sections- the first section addresses general information that all users should know; the second section addresses specific hazards and controls at WNR; and the third section addresses specific hazards and controls at the Lujan Center.

After you complete this self-study course, you will take a short quiz to demonstrate your understanding of the material. You must score at least 80% on the quiz to gain unescorted access the User experimental areas.
